There is something so festive about hot buttered rum during the holiday season. Warm. Cozy. Conversation flows. Here is a family favorite homemade hot buttered rum recipe, perfect for keeping in the batter in the freezer for when guests arrive.
Family Favorite Hot Buttered Rum recipe
- 1 pound real butter (softened)
- 1 pound brown sugar
- 1 quart vanilla ice cream (partially thawed)
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. nutmeg
Blend all ingredients in a large bowl with an electric mixer until thoroughly mixed. Transfer to a container to store in the freezer. When ready to make hot buttered rum, add 1 – 2 T. (to taste), to a cup of boiling water, and 1 oz. rum (to taste), and stir well. Serve in glass mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks or nutmeg sprinkled on top.
This hot buttered rum recipe is smooth and creamy. It’s also delicious without the rum.
