Frosted Orange Sweet Rolls Recipe

Here’s a scrumptious frosted orange sweet rolls recipe with rich cream cheese icing.  These would be perfect for a weekend brunch or simply as a special treat for any occasion or alone.

Frosted Orange Sweet Rolls Recipe


  • 4 T. softened butter
  • 4 oz softened cream cheese
  • 2 cups powdered sugar


  • 1 cup warm water – close to 120 degrees
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 package yeast (1/4 oz)
  • 6 T. melted butter
  • 3 T. sugar
  • 2 t. salt
  • 2 T. orange zest
  • 1/4 cup powdered milk
  • 1/2 cup orange marmalade
  • 1/2 t. ground ginger
  • vegetable oil small amount

In a bowl mix the warm water, melted butter, flour, yeast, salt, sugar, powdered milk, yeast, and orange zest.  With a mixer, beat at a low speed until it is dough.  Put this dough in another large bowl, lightly brush the top of the dough with vegetable oil and cover with a clean cloth.  Allow this to sit for the yeast to rise in a warm, draft-free place for about an hour.  It should double in size.

Take the dough out on to a lightly floured surface and knead dough about 6 minutes.  Roll with a rolling pin into a 12X20 inch rectangle.

In a small bowl combine the orange marmalade and ginger.  Spread this evenly, all the way to the edges of the rolled dough.  On the long side, roll tightly into a log shape, then place it seam down on a safe-to-cut surface.  Cut into 2 inch rolls.

Spray a 10 inch cast iron skillet with cooking spray or olive oil and place rolls in the pan. Cover with a clean cloth and allow to rest another hour in a warm, draft-free place.   About 45 minutes in, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Put the skillet in the oven and bake about 35 minutes until lightly brown.

Remove from heat and allow to cool until just warm.  In a bowl with your mixer, beat the butter and cream cheese until smooth.  On low speed add the powdered sugar, then beat on high until fluffy.  Spread over warm rolls and serve.  Yummy!
