There’s just something about having an amazing clean home. It feels comfortable, its pleasing to the eye, and it feels like home. For me, when things are messy and dirty, I feel overwhelmed easily in an overall sort of way. I feel like it clutters my mind. Can you relate?
I did some helpful research and realized I needed to change my lifestyle in cleaning. I’ve broken it down into some manageable steps for cleaning in a more natural way.
Why should one clean naturally? You’ll be able to clean your entire home, inside and out. By using homemade products that are safe to use while your kids and pets are in the same room, and are inexpensive just makes sense.
Think that natural cleaners won’t do as good a job as the commercial versions? Wrong! You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how effective natural cleaners can be. Homemade cleaners are also easily customizable, you can adjust formulas to create the perfect cleaning products for your cleaning preferences.
6 Steps to Success
First, if you have no idea where to start first, start small. Just pick one corner of your house to begin. Declutter and deep clean that one section. When finished, you can either move to another section, right next to it. Or do that next section the next day.
Another strategy is when you run out of a cleaner, don’t buy it again. Find one you can make to replace it. Here’s two in my posts Homemade Oven Cleaner – Safer & Nontoxic and Make Your Own Dishwasher Detergent.
Buy inexpensive cleaners
Try looking around a health store or a local grocery store within your community for more natural versions at good prices. So switch and try doing your own less expensive yet conventional cleaners. You can also opt for product like Pure Clean Handheld Steamer Birdie, that uses no product at all, but cleans using steam. You can clean virtually any surface in your home, including bathrooms. A one time expense, that will save you money big time, over the long run. Best of all, it sanitizes too.
Make use of “all-purpose” cleaners
Marketers are very smart. They make sure that a specific cleaner is intended for a specific area of your home. You have to purchase a cleaner for your toilet bowl, your bath tub, a different one for windows, tables, ovens, etc. This creates clutter and unnecessary expense.
You can either choose to make your own all purpose cleaner, or use a natural one like Puracy Natural All Purpose Cleaner.
Experimenting is good
Do not just settle for one recipe or two, when making your own cleaners. Keep trying until you find the ones that truly work for you.
This also include the general rhythm of cleaning. Try to do tasks when your energy levels are at their highest. You don’t have to clean the entire house in one session. Pick a task or two, do it thoroughly. An example is in my post Get Your Chrome Bathroom Fixtures Clean and Shining. For most items, once deep cleaned, only a minimal amount is needed to maintain it. This will help keep you more motivated, while everything is looking great.
Time is essential
If you are a newbie when it comes to natural cleaners, expect a learning curve to more natural solutions. Patience and kindness to yourself in the process should be given.
For bare floors, I really like the Steam Mop Hard Floor Steam Cleaner, which again relies on steam for cleaning, in lieu of chemical cleaners.
Try to create a habit to do some cleaning tasks everyday. Even if it is just a small one. Doing small tasks is better than nothing, and those small ones can really add up. You will be shocked at the overall impact this will have to have an amazing clean home.
Keep clutter at bay
Take just 10 or 15 minutes per day to de-clutter some area of the home. Then work to keep on top of it. Take those couple of minutes to put things away, where they belong. You’ll be shocked at how much this will help.
Even with organic cleaners, fitting cleaning into a busy schedule can be tough. Life is busy. Come up with a schedule that works for you, and it doesn’t have to be perfect.
The first step to embracing a cleaning routine is to understand what a “clean house” really is. Spotless isn’t necessarily the goal, but clean is. People you love live in your home and you want them to fully enjoy life. Clean bathrooms rank pretty high on my priority list.
Toys strewn from one end of the living room to the next shows that kids are enjoying themselves. It doesn’t hurt for them to help pick up their own toys at the end of the day, either. It helps them to be a contributor of the family.

It doesn’t matter if you are out of the house for 40 hours a week, or home all day. You can accomplish a successful cleaning routine that works for you and your schedule. For some, that might mean hiring help. Later, you will realize how your house is doing a miraculous transformation of becoming an amazing clean home.
